How can I sum up three years in just 350 words?

The SBE degree has been an incredibly valuable experience for me. It has given me the opportunity to develop new skills and grow. It has pushed me outside of my comfort zone, and given me opportunities that I never imagined I’d have.

One of the biggest highlights was having the opportunity to speak with Clare Balding during a Creative Conversation. Hearing about her career, asking questions and learning from someone I have always looked up to was very inspiring for me. It reinforced my passion for pursuing a career in sports journalism and broadcasting.

This course also gave me the chance to interview players from the England National mens and womens rugby teams. It allowed me to put my interviewing and communication skills into practice in a professional environment and gave me confidence that I can work within elite sport.

Another standout experience was taking part in learning journeys to Prague and Budapest. These trips broadened my perspective, exposed me to different learning environments when attending the universities and learning about their businesses, teaching me valuable lessons that I wouldn’t have gained otherwise.

I also loved taking part in the enterprise challenges throughout the course. Winning both the Natwest Boot Camp and Dragons Den style challenge showed me how much my confidence had grown. Presenting ideas under pressure, working as part of a team, and seeing those ideas recognised gave me a real belief in my abilities.

Another opportunity I am particularly proud of was working alongside Bristol City FC on their communications. Being able to contribute to their social media platforms gave me valuable industry experience and helped me develop practical skills in content creation, communication and audience engagement.

Looking back on my three years on the SBE course it has given me so much more knowledge. It has provided experiences that have shaped my career ambitions, built my confidence, and opened a lot of doors. It has confirmed that I want to build a career in sports journalism and broadcasting, and I feel far more prepared to take my next steps as I begin my masters degree.
